Arsenal faced a Burnley side looking to get their Premier League form back in control after a very contentious defeat last weekend. Mikel Arteta has been the focus of much discussion surrounding referees and VAR but managed to secure victory against Vincent Kompany's side.

The game grew to life throughout the game with a relatively subdued start compared to the ferocity of the match with Sevilla in the Champions League the previous Wednesday. However, it did have plenty of controversy and strange decision-making from Michael Oliver.

With it being a 3pm kick-off only those outside of the UK would have had the benefit of the television cameras. However, football.london were inside the ground and had the chance to spot things that the pictures might have missed.

Remembering those lost

Typically, the matchday routine will see a rendition of ‘North London Forever’ ring out amongst the Stadium with the players on the field. However, with it being Armistice Day, the anthem was played ten minutes earlier than normal.

This allowed for The Last Post to be played in memory of those lost during the world’s wars. It was observed immaculately by the Emirates crowd who stood for a moment of reflection.

Gabriel vs Michael Oliver

We witnessed some of the most controversial refereeing decisions in the past week. It kicked off on Tyneside with Newcastle being awarded a crucial goal after Gabriel Magalhaes had appeared to be fouled by Joelinton before the ball reached Anthony Gordon but nothing was given.

However, a week on and the defender was again pushed in the back but this time going for a header himself. Jay Rodriguez the man to do so and the Brazilian was seen alone remonstrating to the official Michael Oliver after the incident whilst other players walked back to their positions.

It came after an earlier incident where Bukayo Saka had been deemed to have fouled Luca Koleosho. There appears to be a distinct lack of consistency between the calls but this is hardly something we have not said before.

Zinchenko and Kompany’s moment

The little Ukrainian was on hand to score a huge goal for his side to hand the Gunners control of the game. The ball fell to the full-back inside the box on the half-volley and his strike sailed right into the top corner with a fantastic dip.

The Burnley manager Vincent Kompany was of course a former teammate of Zinchenko’s whilst at Manchester City. It is usually before or after the game that the opponents can share pleasantries but the clash presented a chance for the pair to have a small moment whilst it was ongoing.

Shortly after the defender had scored, the ball went out for a throw-in right in front of the press box. This is where the opposition technical area is and as the Ukrainian walked over to grab the ball he was approached by his former City captain who outstretched a hand of congratulations to the now Arsenal man in a touching moment between the two. Class is permanent.
