Tottenham return to Premier League action this weekend as they prepare to take on Aston Villa. Ange Postecoglou's side will be looking to return to winning ways after suffering back-to-back defeats against Chelsea and Wolves prior to the international break.

Spurs had started the season with eight wins from ten matches but have now dropped down to fourth in the table. Postecoglou is facing a number of injury concerns to the likes of James Maddison and Micky Van de Ven.

Captain Son Heung-min had sparked fears when he went down injured in South Korea's win over Singapore, but the forward played the entirety of the 3-0 win over China on Tuesday - scoring twice. Goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario was forced to leave the Italy squad after picking up flu symptoms and replaced by Atalanta's Marco Carnescchi.

Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham handed Evan Ferguson transfer twist with release clause answer

Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham's hopes of landing Brighton star Evan Ferguson may have taken a huge blow following the signing of a new long-term contract with the Seagulls. The 19-year-old had a breakout campaign for the Albion last time out, scoring six goals in 19 appearances.

His size and physicality means he has adapted well to the demands of the Premier League, while he clearly has an eye for goal too. He has nearly matched his tally from last season just in 11 appearances, scoring five for his side and taking up the headlines with impressive displays.

That has naturally caught the eye of some big teams in the Premier League and beyond, hopeful of landing the next superstar that could play at the top for years to come. Chelsea have been amongst those linked, with the west London outfit still in need of a clinical striker.

The Blues have done business with Brighton plenty of times over the past two-years, but may have to pay another record-breaking sum to land Ferguson - who is valued at €80million (£69m) as per CIES Football Observatory. They may find competition from Arsenal, who have also been linked with a switch for a striker in the January transfer window.

Tottenham's 'secret' plan to complete transfer revealed as defender signing targeted

Tottenham Hotspur are one of the clubs monitoring the development of Atalanta youngster Giorgio Slavini, according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano. Spurs have enjoyed a stellar start to the 2023/24 campaign, currently sitting fourth in the Premier League table, just two points behind league leaders Manchester City.

One of the main reasons for the north Londoners' impressive form has been summer signing Micky van de Ven. However, the Dutchman sustained a hamstring injury during his side’s 4-1 loss to Chelsea earlier this month.

After initial observations, it was determined that surgery would not be required and the former Wolfsburg centre-back would be able to recover through treatment with the club's medical staff at Hotspur Way. However, Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou explained at his press conference in the week after that Van de Ven would still be out of action until the new year.

That leaves the Lillywhites short in defence, causing plenty of speculation regarding a new defender potentially arriving in the January transfer window. Now, transfer expert Romano has spoken about one centre-half that Spurs are keen on.

Latest Tottenham injury news with nine doubts for Aston Villa amid Son boost and Udogie wait

After losing back-to-back Premier League games, Tottenham Hotspur will be itching to return to action after the international break. Ange Postecoglou's men had started the season with eight wins from ten matches but have dropped down to fourth after defeats to Chelsea and Wolves.

It's not just the results that have gone against Spurs with Postecoglou suffering a number of injury setbacks, and seeing two key players miss the rest of 2023. Micky van de Ven (hamstring) and James Maddison (ankle) were both forced off in the first-half of the 4-1 loss to Chelsea after starting life in north London in fine form.

"Micky, obviously, as we saw the other night, [suffered] a fairly significant hamstring injury," Postecoglou said. "So, without putting a firm timeline on it, at least a couple of months out for him, so we're looking at the new year."

On Maddison, the Spurs boss added: "He got quite a significant ankle injury the other night and was sent for scans. It wasn't great, so he'll be out for a period of time, probably into the new year as well."
