Tottenham Hotspur's clash with Chelsea will go down in Premier League history as one of the most incident-filled matches of its time.

Spurs started the game brilliantly and took an early lead through Dejan Kulusevski in the sixth minute. Sergio Romero then gave away a penalty and saw red, allowing Chelsea's Cole Palmer to equalise with a 35th-minute spot-kick.

Destiny Udogie then also got sent off as Tottenham had to battle on with nine players. Nicolas Jackson eventually made that two-man advantage count with a goal after 75 minutes and he completed a remarkable hat-trick with two further goals in stoppage time.

Sky Sports covered the game with Gary Neville joining Peter Drury on commentary and Jamie Carragher combining with Daniel Sturridge in the Monday Night Football studio. football.london looks at what the trio said with regards to the many on-field incidents that required VAR intervention.

Son disallowed goal (15 mins)

Spurs looked to have gone 2-0 ahead when Son Heung-min slotted home at the end of a free-flowing move. But, after a long inspection, the South Korean was adjudged to be millimetres ahead of Axel Disasi.

Gary Neville - Is it this one where he is offside or is it this one? Or is it neither? Here we go, let the fun begin. My initial look on both angles is that it looks onside on both, but it might be a Chelsea defender's hand that keeps him onside. It's the shoulder, yes it's off. But it's close, very close.

Udogie yellow card (18')

Udogie eventually saw red but could have been dismissed in the first half, though he was brandished with a yellow card. His flying two-footed challenge was out of control and he narrowly avoided Raheem Sterling.

Neville - He gets the ball, but let's have a look at it from here. That's the one that the footballers and professionals hate. You don't do that.

That tackle was about 15-20 years ago and I think that is the classic red card. I think he may get away with it because of the fact he gets the ball, but that's a shocker that - you don't do that anymore, or ever did because you knew you were going to be in trouble.

Raheem Sterling sees him coming and just pulls his leg away, but he's a lucky boy. That is a challenge that is universally hated.

Daniel Sturridge - I think the intent was that he went for the ball. It did seem like a nasty challenge and if he connects with [Raheem] Sterling, that would look really bad. But, he didn't make the connection so the decision was right not to give him a red card.

Jamie Carragher - Yeah, it was very close to being dangerous. But, the difference between reckless and dangerous is the impact on the opposition player. He is very lucky that he didn't connect too much on Raheem Sterling, otherwise no doubt it is a red card.

Sterling disallowed goal and Romero first challenge (21')

Sterling's persistence looked to have paid off as he stumbled through the Tottenham defence before squeezing a shot past Guglielmo Vicario. VAR noted that the ball appeared deflected off Sterling's hand before he got his shot away.

Neville - It comes back and hits Raheem Sterling's hand I think. That isn't going to count. But I do think [Christian] Romero is in trouble at the other end. They might lose the goal, but Spurs might lose the man.

Yeah, he's in trouble. If he had the whereabouts which I know is difficult to square it across he'd have got away with it, but because he scores the goal. The Spurs fans are cheering, but they won't be cheering in a minute or so. We'll see what happens now with Romero.

(Destiny) Udogie should be off, that is an absolute fact, that’s 100%. I think Romero is a lucky boy because when you normally do that and just kick out at someone without anyone being near you, you ordinarily go off. It reminds me exactly of David Beckham - maybe we can get VAR to overturn that one.

Carragher - It's petulant, not violent. It's stupid and that is what he is about at times. It's a little kick and I don't think there's too much force in it. It's daft to put yourself in a position where VAR will be looking at that or maybe a referee, but no, I don't think that's a red card.

Caicedo disallowed goal (28')

Moises Caicedo actually found the net with a 25-yard thunderbolt in the exact action straight after the foul which led to the Chelsea penalty. His drilled shot skidded into the corner but Nicolas Jackson was adjudged to have distracted the goalkeeper from a marginally offside position.

Sturridge - This one for me should have stood. When we are talking about a shot from distance, the goalkeeper, I don't think Jackson is really blocking his view, and the distance between him and the goalkeeper is quite big as well, so I believe this is a goal but fortunately for Chelsea they got the penalty opportunity but they would have been devastated if that goal didn't stand and they didn't get the penalty.

Romero red card and penalty (33')

Caicedo's goal was ruled out and the play was brought back a few moments to check on Romero's clumsy penalty-box challenge. The Argentine won the ball but his follow through went forcefully into Enzo Fernandez's shin and, as a result, a penalty was awarded and he was sent off.

Neville - Is a Chelsea player standing in there and interfering with the goalkeeper? (Nicolas) Jackson maybe? It’s gone through his legs, no not a penalty, he has missed everything there (Micky) van de Ven. Ooooh no [Christian] Romero you, you.

Honestly, this is mayhem. That [challenge on Sterling] is not a penalty, that one [from Romero on Fernandez] is. That’s a penalty for me and a bad challenge. This is incredible.

The offside we will find out about, but I'm going with the fact that I think it is a penalty to Chelsea, irrespective of whether this goal is allowed. I think if this goal is disallowed, they should go back and look at the Romero challenge and give a penalty.

I think it's a penalty, this is where I thought we'd get to. Goal disallowed, this one is not a penalty, he misses even though it is a wild waft by Van de Ven, you have to check the next one VAR, don't miss it. That one. That's a penalty. He plays the ball, but I don't know why he's followed through the way he does.

It's a mad challenge from Romero - he doesn't have to follow through like that and but his studs right into [Enzo] Fernandez's shin - that is a penalty. They are going to review it.

If you go back to Curtis Jones' one a few weeks ago which I thought was harsh, this one is a lot worse. For those of you watching at home thinking he gets the ball and it's a natural follow through, trust me, as a defender that is not a natural follow through, that is not what you do.

He's gone over the top as he moves through the ball. Yeah, it's a red. He could have gone earlier, I was 50/50 on it. I have no sympathy for him. He makes wild challenges, he's a great defender, he's passionate, he's fiery, but he knows every single time what he is doing and it's the wildest of challenges.

They have just shown it in the stadium and they are not happy because they think he's got the ball, which he did, the Spurs fans behind that goal are going crazy.

Carragher - Yes, absolutely ridiculous. To put a challenge like that in the penalty box. That's a challenge I would have made 20 years ago. Those days are well gone. Those days have gone by saying I won the ball first and I couldn't control myself afterwards. He was out of control, excessive force, definite red card.

James 'elbow' (45+12)

Towards the end of the half, Reece James wafted his arm in the direction of Udogie as they both went to win an aerial ball. The right-back avoided further punishment.

Neville - We saw a similar one with Bruno [Guimaraes] on Saturday. The ball is not there and he's just put his arm across his face. It is very similar to the one Bruno Guimaraes saw in the game between Newcastle and Arsenal.

What is he doing, Reece James? The captain of Chelsea. Absolute madness. They better cancel the adverts at half-time so they can get through all the incidents.

Udogie red card (55')

The left-back clumsily brought down Sterling and received his marching orders. Sterling looked to have made a mess out of the Chelsea counter attack but the scenario ended up with Tottenham losing a second player.

Udogie - Raheem Sterling's initial pass isn't a good one. It's just stupid.

I have enjoyed the first 10 minutes of this second half from Spurs, but you just cannot believe the madness that he [Postecoglou] is watching before his eyes.

He knows he's on a booking, Raheem Sterling is going away from goal and wide. It's going to be a long 35 minutes for those two players sitting in the dressing room, I have been there - it's a horrible feeling.

Dier disallowed goal (81')

It was another tight offside call as Eric Dier slammed home a stunning volley after latching on to a Rodrigo Bentancur flick but he was just ahead of the Chelsea defensive line. A late scare for the Blues, who were just 2-1 up at the time.

Neville - It's not the first one because I saw Eric Dier going round the back, it must be off the flick on - let's have a look.

He's onside on the first one, it's there. It's just who it comes off, does [Rodrigo] Bentancur get a touch on it, yes he does and then it's on to the head of Thiago Silva.

What a finish, but I think he will be offside. If you do get set-pieces it does give you a chance to get three or four bodies forward and into the box.

He’s off. Is it [Malo] Gusto on that far side? Look, I’ll wait and see but he did look offside, Eric Dier.

Maybe it is tighter than I originally thought. I mean this game is mad, so. I was questioning my sanity there, he looked offside from the beginning. I'm going to ask for next weekend off.
