As we are now approaching the final few days of August, the finish line of this season's summer transfer window is now in sight for Ange Postecoglou and Tottenham. With the 11pm deadline on Friday, September 1 only eight days away, Spurs have an awful lot to do in the summer market before the window closes until January.

As important as it is that Postecoglou can strengthen his Tottenham squad even further, Daniel Levy and the club need to be incredibly active in terms of outgoings due to the current numbers at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Having done the vast majority of their transfer business before the final week of the window 12 months ago, it appears that it will be a repeat of years gone by with the club looking to conclude a lot of deals prior to the deadline.

football.london takes a look below at what fans can expect from Tottenham in the transfer market over the next eight days.

Squad trimmed

The size of Tottenham's current squad can be seen from the fact that they took 31 players on the club's Asia-Pacific pre-season tour and they still had another six players remaining behind at Hotspur Way. There has been some transfer movement since then with three incomings and two outgoings, though, to increase the number by one.

Postecoglou is well aware of the fact that the current numbers are way too high as it impacts his training sessions in the process and leaves him with some players who are unhappy after missing out on the matchday squad. As Tottenham have to submit a 25-man squad to the Premier League following the closure of the transfer window, Levy and Spurs have plenty to finalise before deadline day just to make the numbers more manageable for the head coach.

In terms of the 25-man squad, clubs cannot name more than 17 non-homegrown players on the list and the remainder of the squad, up to a total of 25 players, must be homegrown. All teams are also able to name players 21 and under on an under-21 list, which frees up space in the squad in the process and should make life a little easier for Postecoglou.

Despite the bonus of being able to name players such as Pape Matar Sarr and Destiny Udogie on the under-21 list, Spurs ideally need to ensure that their total number of players, including those who qualify as under-21s, is around the 25 mark just so the numbers do not make things too difficult for the Australian. Tottenham really are going to have to work overtime regarding transfer exits in the final eight days as not enough has been done so far with only three departing.

New signings

Transfer arrivals also need to be on the agenda for Tottenham before 11pm on September 1. Addressing their centre-back options in the week leading up to the Brentford game, Spurs could still do with one more defensive option coming into the club to ensure they have plenty of strength in depth.

A player on the same level as either Cristian Romero or Micky van de Ven would be ideal just to ensure that the level does not drop too much when alterations do take place. However, all eyes are going to be on what exactly Spurs do to bolster their attacking choices following Harry Kane's exit.

Postecoglou has already admitted that Tottenham may not look to sign another No.9 to replace Kane, thus opening up the possibility of a versatile forward coming in to give the boss choice through the middle and also on the wing. Clubs now know Tottenham have money burning a hole in their pocket following the sale of Kane and it will be down to Levy to get the best possible deal for the club.

football.london reported on Monday that Spurs are expected to make a move for Brennan Johnson before the transfer deadline, with Chelsea also keen on the Wales international. There's so much positivity around the club at present after a strong start to the season and Levy has to ensure that the upbeat mood still remains come the start of September by finalising another couple of incomings.

Loan army boosted

Tottenham usually have strong numbers when it comes to the loan army but that it not quite the case so far this season. As things stand, Joe Rodon is Spurs' only loan player after sealing a season-long loan move to Championship side Leeds United.

The numbers will surely increase prior to the transfer deadline, with a handful of players in line for possible loan departures. Troy Parrott looks on course to be one of those as he was not handed a Spurs squad number for the season, with Alfie Devine in line to get his first real taste of regular first-team football as Tottenham look to aid his development and take him to the next level.

Postecoglou told football.london last Friday that he will decide this week whether Dane Scarlett remains at Tottenham after making a big impression or he heads out on loan for the second season on the trot. As first-team opportunities at Spurs will be hard to come by for the teenager, another loan looks more beneficial to him at present.

Others who could also join the loan army include Sergio Reguilon, Djed Spence, Japhet Tanganga and Tanguy Ndombele if permanent moves cannot be found.

Permanent exits

In order to ensure that their current issues in terms of outgoings do not rear their head again next year, Tottenham must move players on permanently. That could be quite the challenge if this summer is anything to go by, though. Hugo Lloris is one player who should clinch a deal with another club as he made it clear earlier this summer that he wants a new challenge.

Question marks surround what will happen with Eric Dier at present after missing out on Postecoglou's Tottenham squad in each of the past two games. If he is not going to feature for the new head coach, a permanent exit would be the ideal outcome as the England international is out of contract at the end of the campaign.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg could also depart for good, although that may depend on Atletico Madrid finding the cash for the Dane following so much talk over a potential transfer deal. The time has also come for fellow midfielder Harvey White to seal a permanent move away as he is in the final year of his Spurs contract and he is not going to get the minutes he wants in N17 due to the number of midfield players ahead of him in the pecking order.

If interest is there and Tottenham can strike transfer exits for Reguilon, Spence, Tanganga and Ndombele, that will help Postecoglou out in trimming his squad to size and also making sure that Spurs don't find themselves in exactly the same scenario come this time next year.
