Son Heung-min has offered some clarity on the groin injury that saw him become a huge fitness doubt for Tottenham throughout September and October. The South Korea international has been able to start every Premier League game under Ange Postecoglou this season after battling through a number of problems to ensure he could feature on a matchday.
Alongside James Maddison, the Tottenham captain would frequently miss training throughout the week to allow him to start for Spurs on the weekend. Following the win over Liverpool, where Son scored the opener, Postecoglou gave an honest update on the player's fitness.
"Look, he wasn't 100% but I had a chat with him yesterday and he was desperate to play," he told reporters after the game. "He was going to give what he could and he did. He was never going to play the whole 90, we were always going to give him an hour or so but he led from the front again and he was the one doing the pressing. He got his goal as well so great captain's effort."
That same month, Spurs fans were left rather upset when Son played 90 minutes for his country in a friendly against Vietnam after appearing to pick up a slight niggle. However, upon his return to Hotspur Way, Son was declared fit and he has completed 90 minutes in Tottenham's last three league outings.
With the issue seemingly behind him, Son himself has now given a firm update on suggestions he has been dealing with a groin injury. Speaking recently, as quoted by Yonhap News Agency he said: “When playing a game, you get stepped on or kicked. I kick myself sometimes. Other than not being able to sleep due to jet lag, I’m in good physical condition.”
Son's update will be certainly be music to the ears of Postecoglou after both Micky van de Ven and James Maddison picked up injuries in the 4-1 defeat to Chelsea. Thankfully, neither of the duo will need to undergo surgery, however it is highly unlikely either will be seen again until 2024.

Suspensions are also rife throughout the Lilywhites with Cristian Romero and Yves Bissouma both banned for the visit of Aston Villa. Destiny Udogie and Romero also missed the defeat to Wolves this past weekend and the latter is also set to be absent for the trip to Manchester City in December.
