Tottenham Hotspur got back to winning ways before the international break to ease some of the pressure that had started to mount on Nuno Espirito Santo.
Espirito Santo's side responded well after conceding against Aston Villa and the game finished with a 2-1 win, making it their first win in four Premier League games.
September wasn't a great month for Tottenham, after losing three London derbies in consecutive Premier League defeats.
Not only did they lose out on nine points, but they also conceded a total of nine goals and there were many things wrong with the performances they produced against Crystal Palace, Chelsea and Arsenal.
Spurs would've gone into the Villa game with some confidence, after their 5-1 win against NS Mura in the Europa Conference League on Thursday.
One major downfall in the Lilywhites' way of play in their three Premier League games before the Villa victory was their lack of response after conceding goals.
Crystal Palace's first goal came from Wilfried Zaha in the 76th minute, after Espirito Santo's side had suffered an injury and a sending off.
Despite going down to ten men, the Tottenham players could've still shown some fight and attacking spark in the final 15 minutes of the game, after Patrick Vieira's side grabbed their first goal.
However, this was far from the reality of what happened and Spurs seemed to fall apart, which led to Odsonne Edouard's two goals before the end of the game.
When Chelsea made the trip across London to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, both teams were looking to get maximum points from the derby. Spurs had a much better first half than their previous Premier League game and looked like they had some potential of getting something out of the fixture.
Once again, though, in the second half, things fell apart and it only took Thomas Tuchel's side four minutes into the second period to get their first goal.
With no response from the north London side, the Blues scored a further two goals and left Spurs with their second 3-0 defeat in as many games.
The North London Derby is one of the Lilywhites' biggest games of the season and after two bad games, it was expected that Spurs would come with some fight to get three points against Arsenal.
However, Tottenham continued their poor form at the Emirates Stadium, lacked passion in the game and conceded their first goal within 12 minutes.
Spurs did score their first Premier League goal since their victory against Watford, but it came in the 79th minute and the damage was already done, with the game ending 3-1.
This was the lowest of lows for Tottenham fans, who expect a game full of fight and passion and got a performance that was far from that.
The Aston Villa match was a chance for the Portuguese head coach and his side to show what they had worked on since those defeats and prove they can put on performances to get them back challenging for European spots.
In that sense, Tottenham didn't disappoint and won the game 2-1, taking all three points from Dean Smith's side.
Not only did they get maximum points from the fixture, which has taken them eighth in the league going into the international break, they also showed a reaction when Ollie Watkins scored an equalising goal in the 67th minute.
It only took four minutes for the Tottenham response, with the winning goal going down as an own goal from Villa's Matt Targett.
Spurs showed their effort and fight to come back when their lead was taken away from them and the players looked to have a much more attacking mindset to their play.
Harry Kane is still yet to get a goal in the Premier League this campaign but he got into some good positions and doesn't look far off. Heung-min Son and Lucas Moura played well in wide positions, with Son getting Tottenham's man of the match award after the game.
The response didn't go unnoticed by the fans or the Spurs boss and, in his post-match press conference, Espirito Santo highlighted his players' reaction to conceding.
"Definitely a better reaction. Much better. Previously we became a little bit flat and today was immediately reacting," he said.
"After that moment we continued to create chances and I honestly believe there were more goals there for us today, but the production and the way we produced, the way we created was much, much better."
Tottenham will return to the Premier League after the international break when they travel to St. James' Park to take on Newcastle and will hope to produce another strong performance to help them climb the table - and should they show the resilience and speed to respond to a setback, they may well do just that.
