Eric Dier has hailed his Tottenham teammates for their reaction following Ollie Watkins' equaliser in Sunday's match against Aston Villa.
Going into the game on the back of three successive defeats, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg gave the Lilywhites a half-time lead with a well-taken goal after linking up well with Son Heung-min.
Despite having chances to extend their lead, Nuno Espirito Santo's men were pegged back in the 67th minute after Watkins fired in at the near post from Matt Targett's cross.
A goal which could have seen several heads drop going on the past three results in the Premier League, Spurs reacted extremely well and duly went back ahead four minutes later when Targett put through his own net following Son's low ball across the face of goal.
Claiming a vital win to move into eighth in the league table, Dier was very impressed with how the team responded after a tough month for all concerned.
"I think the way we reacted to the 1-1 was really important. That reaction was great and we really put our foot on the gas," explained Dier after the important victory.
"Looking at it from the other side, we maybe could have started the second half better, it is something we still need to improve on but the reaction to the 1-1 was fantastic and we really put our foot on the gas and created a lot of chances and got the goal."
Topping the league at the end of August following three straight wins, Espirito Santo went into Sunday's game against Aston Villa with pressure on his shoulders following a wretched display at Arsenal.
Making it clear that the levels the players dropped way below at the Emirates had nothing to do with the head coach, Dier has stressed that it is still "early days" but the showing against Aston Villa was "the best of the season" so far.
"100 per cent. We have to keep calm, we had a tough couple of weeks, under difficult circumstances, we were missing a lot of players, we went to Crystal Palace injuries, sending offs, we really lost our balance there and then we had two disappointing results," said the 27-year-old when asked if they still believe in the plan.
"The Chelsea result did not reflect the game at all, we performed really well, especially in the first half and then the Arsenal game we were very disappointed.
"It's early days, I think the performance today was the best of the season and that shows a real reaction from the players. The players needed to show that reaction.
"For me it doesn't really matter, as players we have to perform and there are some levels you can't drop below and we definitely did last weekend and that has nothing to do with the manager."
Tottenham's style of play under Espirito Santo has come in for plenty of criticism so far with the team not playing the "free-flowing, attacking and entertaining" football Daniel Levy promised when speaking back in May about what the club wanted in their next manager.

Time is going to be key to the former Wolves boss transforming his Spurs team and Dier has admitted that they are working towards that at present.
"Results are always going to be the most important thing for anyone. Whatever style you play results are the most important thing and that won't change," he added.
"Obviously we want to be winning football matches and playing good football like we did today.
"That takes time, we are just at the beginning of a new phase, under a new manager, it is still early and those things take time to implement.
"We are definitely working towards that, today we showed that against a very good Aston Villa side."
