Chelsea are back in action on Wednesday evening when they face Brighton at Stamford Bridge in the Carabao Cup. The Blues suffered their third Premier League defeat of the season at the hands of Aston Villa on Sunday afternoon with Ollie Watkins scoring the only goal of the game.

Following that result, Chelsea sit on just five points from six league games so far this season, talk of Mauricio Pochettino facing the sack has emerged just a few months into his tenure in west London, however he still is being backed by the owners. A positive result against Brighton and the possibility of a cup run could see matters improve ahead of a London Derby against Fulham next Monday.

The Seagulls have enjoyed recent success against Chelsea with their last defeat against the Blues coming in September 2020. With that damning record in mind, Pochettino will surely want to pick up a victory and alleviate some pressure on his shoulders with Chelsea especially struggling to find the back of the net.

Work being done on the Cobham pitches is sure to have centred around converting chances and with that said, football.london has pulled together all the big moments spotted from Chelsea's latest training session.

Palmer hint

Following his summer transfer from Manchester City, Cole Palmer is yet to start a game for Chelsea, but that could change on Wednesday evening. With Pochettino likely to rotate and Palmer often brought on from the bench in Premier League games, a start in place of Raheem Sterling is plausible.

The likelihood of that happening also looks to have increased with one training image suggesting Palmer may be in line for a start. Pochettino has already confirmed that Armando Broja is not fit enough to start a game after making his injury return at the weekend.

In training, Broja was captured taking part in what looks to be a small-sided game without a bib on, while Palmer was wearing a vibrant orange one. The starting team for a match competing in a training game against a combination of the planned substitutes bench and youth players is common practice, and with Palmer and Broja on different teams it certainly seems to suggest the former will start.

Mudryk warning

Mykhailo Mudryk has started back-to-back Premier League games for only the second time in his Chelsea career and despite not contributing in front of goal, his confidence still appears to be high. In training, Mudryk was captured attempting an ambitious bicycle kick, which is not exactly something a player low on confidence tries to pull off.

The Ukraine international has shown glimpses of his ability against Bournemouth and Aston Villa and having the backing of his manager appears to be huge for Mudryk. In an interview with Chelsea's website during pre-season, the 22-year-old revealed exactly how important having the faith of his manager was.

Pochettino favourites

Levi Colwill and Conor Gallagher appear to be two members of the Chelsea squad that Mauricio Pochettino is very fond of. Gallagher was heavily linked with an exit in the summer, but Pochettino was insistent he remained at the club and his admiration for the England international was further highlighted by his decision to give him the captain's armband against Bournemouth.

As for Colwill, the Argentine raved about his displays in his latest press conference with faith being shown in his abilities to play slightly out of position at left-back. The duo's bond with the Chelsea boss was also highlighted in the latest batch of training pictures with the trio spotted deep in conversation and all three having smiles on their faces.
