A new post on Micky van de Ven's Instagram account got the Tottenham fans talking on Saturday as they raised their hopes about his injury return.

The 22-year-old Dutchman suffered a hamstring injury in the first half of the defeat to Chelsea this month. It was a major blow because Van de Ven has been one of the best defenders in the Premier League since arriving in north London from Wolfsburg this summer.

His pace and ability on the ball has seen him slot perfectly into Ange Postecoglou's Spurs team and he has been a crucial part of a defence that has shone under the Australian. In added time at the end of the first half against Chelsea, Van de Ven pulled up and fell to the floor while screaming in agony before having to be helped off the pitch. He left the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on crutches.

After initial observations it was determined that surgery would not be required and the defender would be able to recover through treatment with the club's medical staff at Hotspur Way. However, Postecoglou explained at his press conference in the week after that Van de Ven would still be out of action until the new year.

The young Dutchman's Instagram account got Tottenham fans talking on Saturday though with an Instagram Story post showing highlights of Van de Ven in action with an hour glass underneath with a series of dots.

Despite the excitement, football.london understands that nothing has changed at this point with regards to the defender's recovery time and he is still currently expected back in the new year.

"Micky van de Ven with a hamstring injury we knew was fairly significant. Probably a couple of months for him - looking into the new year," said Postecoglou last week.

"Like any footballer, that’s probably their biggest fear — that there’s always the possibility of injury disrupting their careers. He was obviously disappointed but now it’s about rehab and making sure he uses his time to come back better than ever. He’s got good support in the building in terms of the medical team and support staff. Knowing Micky in already the time I’ve spent with him, he’ll leave no stone unturned to make sure he comes back bigger and better.

"All the absences have an effect on the team. I guess the unusual one for us [is that there are] not many times in my career when you have such a disruption for one game. We’ve lost four or five starters in one game — three of our back four. That’s where we get affected more than anything else. If it was just Micky, you’d miss him because of the qualities he has. It wouldn’t disrupt us as much. But we’ve got to bring in three different players in a back four, and that’s the big challenge for us."
