Manchester City have been handed yet another injury worry with star striker Erling Haaland suffering a knock to his ankle on international duty with Norway. The 23-year-old came on at half time of his country's friendly with the Faroe Islands and in the final minutes of the 2-0 win, he fell to the floor clutching the same ankle that has already given him some problems this season.
Earlier this month, in the home fixture against Bournemouth, Haaland was withdrawn at half time by Pep Guardiola as a precaution with the Man City boss later playing down any long-term injury issues. "Twist in the ankle, we didn't want to take risks with him, he didn't feel comfortable," he said. "He'll be back maybe Tuesday but maybe next Sunday. I didn't speak with the doctors yet but we will see in the next days how it develops."
Any concerns were then quickly alleviated with Haaland spotted in training before he then started and scored twice in Tuesday's Champions League win over Young Boys. After being substituted just beyond the hour mark, Haaland then played the full 90 minutes in the chaotic 4-4 draw with Chelsea where he scored another brace.
However, there will now be some concerns within Etihad Stadium as Haaland grabbed at the same ankle that has plagued him already this month while in action for Norway. Following the injury worry, Man City are already in contact with Norway and upon receiving some treatment, he was able to continue with Norway's team doctor, Ola Sand, and manager, Stale Solbakken, delivering an update on his injury status.
After the game, via Manchester Evening News, Sand told TV2: "It was much of the same that happened against Bournemouth a week and a half ago. He has had it before too. He gets a slight twist in his ankle, where he is a bit vulnerable. It hurts a lot right away, and then it goes away pretty quickly. Then we'll see tomorrow how he is then.
“Now he will receive some treatment, then there will be peace and rest and then we will see how he is tomorrow morning. We have already spoken to City. Erling has spoken to both City and [chief doctor] Mario [Pafundi] already.” On whether or not Man City had set restrictions on Haaland playing for Norway, Solbakken said: "Under no circumstances have we received an enquiry from Pep Guardiola during my time with the national team. Erling is very keen to play in the national team."

The issue undoubtedly makes him a doubt for Norway's next fixture against Scotland, although there are seven days before Man City's Premier League return. The reigning champions face Liverpool in the early kick-off on Saturday, which does give Haaland less time to recover, and while he came back from a similar issue in just a few days and that may mean Man City and Guardiola may not be too concerned, taking a blow in the same area could present a long-term worry if any serious damage is done through a recurrence of knocks.
Rodri has also emerged as a slight injury concern after missing Spain's win over Cyprus due to 'discomfort' with that update coming a few days after Mathues Nunes, Ederson, Nathan Ake and Mateo Kovacic all pulled out of international duty. England international John Stones missed out entirely from Gareth Southgate's squad having suffered a potentially long-term injury setback earlier this month.
