Having made an impressive start to the summer transfer window with three new additions, Tottenham fans have made it perfectly clear that things have slowed down way too much in recent weeks. At a time when Ange Postecoglou is crying out for two new centre-backs to help bring the team's defence to the required level, the Lilywhites have yet to add to a position of priority and the new Premier League season is edging ever closer.

With the away trip to Brentford now only 12 days away, Spurs really need to pick things up if they want Postecoglou to have some new options available to him for the showdown in west London. In an ideal world, Tottenham will have new signings in place for then but, if not, they have until 11pm on Friday, September 1 to conclude any remaining transfer business.

Now with a month to go until the summer window closes for business, what exactly do Daniel Levy, Postecoglou and Spurs have left to do in the market? football.london takes a look below.

Kane decision

The main talking point surrounding the club at present is Harry Kane's future. Now in the final year of his Tottenham contract, Bayern Munich are intent on signing the 30-year-old and have been incredibly vocal about a potential big-money transfer for the England captain.

With Bayern Munich officials flying into the capital to discuss a possible deal with Levy, Kane's future could become a lot clearer by the end of the week. A subject that is dominating all the talk in N17 at present and impacting Postecoglou's pre-season plans in the process, the head coach needs clarity regarding the situation for good so he can plan for the future.

Defensive incomings

It's hard to believe that Tottenham's first game of the season is now only 12 days away and the club still haven't strengthened at centre-back. Very much their top priority in the transfer market after shipping 63 Premier League goals last term, it could be another long season for Spurs unless they sort things out ASAP.

The north London club have held talks with Wolfsburg and Bayer Leverkusen about bringing in Micky van de Ven and Edmond Tapsoba respectively, with Spurs also having a strong interest in Fulham's Tosin Adarabioyo. Ashley Phillips from Blackburn Rovers appeared to be a certain signing, but football.london reported last week that the deal had stalled but it was not believed to have broken down due to a big amount being asked for in add-ons raising the transfer fee considerably.

The problem Tottenham have in their centre-back pursuit is that it is now so well documented that clubs can just raise their prices as the Lilywhites are so desperate to add to that area of the pitch. Regardless of their current struggles, Levy and Spurs must find a way around it and start bringing centre-backs into the club sharpish.

Perfect loan clubs

Tottenham have had plenty of issues in the past when it has come to finding the perfect loan club for their talented youngsters. Players have returned to N17 in January on a number of occasions in the past before heading out elsewhere in order to play more regularly.

Just last season, Dane Scarlett appeared to be at the perfect club in Portsmouth with plenty of minutes coming his way at the beginning of the season. However, Danny Cowley's dismissal at the turn of the year resulted in him finding game time hard to come by following John Mousinho's appointment.

Scarlett is one of the youngsters who needs to head out on loan again in 2023/24, with League One a likely destination for him once again. Troy Parrott will also be in a similar boat but he will more than likely be playing his football in the Championship after a good season with Preston North End.

Alfie Devine impressed on Tottenham's pre-season tour but it appears the perfect time for him to depart on loan to help take his game to another level. First-team players Djed Spence and Bryan Gil could also be in line for exits after finishing last term on loan at Rennes and Sevilla respectively.

Permanent exits

Taking a total of 31 players on the club's summer tour and having six stay behind at Hotspur Way, the current numbers are just not manageable for Postecoglou as he prepares for the new season. Tottenham need to cut their numbers by some way and ensure that the Australian has around 25 players at his disposal.

A summer of change at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, the Lilywhites must move a handful of players on for good as they bid to get back on track and challenge at the top again. The struggles of many over the past few years means that transfer outgoings are easier said than done as clubs aren't exactly going to be queuing up at the door to sign those on the periphery of the team.

Long-serving captain Hugo Lloris will be one of those to depart as he seeks a fresh challenge, with Sergio Reguilon, Davinson Sanchez, Joe Rodon, Japhet Tanganga, Tanguy Ndombele and Harvey White just some of those who could go permanently. Giovani Lo Celso previously appeared to be one of those heading for the exit door but Postecoglou hinted to football.london in Singapore that the player could now be part of his plans going forward, while it remains to be seen what will happen with Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Ivan Perisic.

There's so much to do in terms of permanent exits and Tottenham cannot leave everything until the final few weeks of the window to sort everything out.
