Kai Havertz joined Arsenal for £65million from London rivals Chelsea four months ago and during this period he's been asked to perform in a variety of roles as Mikel Arteta aims to get the best out of his big-money summer signing.
Despite being brought in with the intention to play in midfield, the 24-year-old operated up front on competitive debut for the Gunners against Manchester City in the Community Shield back in August and there's a strong argument that he's looked most comfortable when leading the line.
Primarily though, Havertz has been deployed in the Arsenal engine room. Regarded as the first-choice option as the left-sided eight, he has filled in for Martin Odegaard as the right-sided eight alongside Jorginho and Declan Rice in recent weeks as a result of the Norwegian's injury issues.
Furthermore, there was a brief period either side of the October international break when Havertz assumed the role of 'super sub' after coming off the bench to claim the assist for Gabriel Martinelli's winner against Man City before helping the Gunners rescue a point on his first return to Stamford Bridge.
Whilst the £65million summer signing is still awaiting his first goal from open play in Arsenal colours and supporters are still waiting to see the very best from him, it's safe to say his versatility has already made him a valuable member of Arteta's first-team squad and the past few days have seen Havertz add another string to his bow.
Called up by Germany for their November friendlies, it caught many by surprise when Julian Nagelsmann opted to field the Gunners star at left-back in the 3-2 defeat against Turkey on Saturday. Although, it would appear the change of position was at the request of the player himself.

"Kai said he wanted to do it, wanted to try it [playing at left-back]. I don’t see this as a risk for him, but as a very, very big opportunity to play a key role at the Euros," Nagelsmann told reporters. "For a first time in an unfamiliar position, he did extremely well and probably was our best player."
To the Germany boss' point, the experiment had its positives, particularly with the Arsenal ace opening the scoring with a tidy finish and from a defensive perspective, he made eight clearances, two interceptions and one ball recovery while also winning all of his aerial duels. Unfortunately, he did concede the penalty which contributed to Germany losing.
It remains to be seen if Nagelsmann will stick with Havertz at left-back against Austria this evening (Tuesday) but what are the chances of this becoming a regular occurrence at club level? Well, we know Arteta is a big fan of versatility which means it might be impossible to completely rule out the Spaniard taking a leaf out of the German's tactical book.
Having said that, it would take an extreme set of events for this to come to fruition at Arsenal. Firstly, the standard of right-wingers in the Premier League - Mohamed Salah a perfect example - means it would be a risky strategy especially as the defensive side of the game isn't exactly Havertz's strong point.
But most importantly, the Gunners have four natural options at left-back having spent a combined total of £103.2million to sign Takehiro Tomiyasu, Oleksandr Zinchenko, Jakub Kiwior and Jurrien Timber in the past two years.
Of course, never say never especially as the latter is currently sidelined through injury and Tomiyasu is expected to be missing for up to a month in the new year because of the AFC Asian Cup, but even with those factors it still seems unlikely that Havertz will be deployed at left-back for Arsenal any time soon.
