Jose Mourinho could look to raid his former club Chelsea once again in the January transfer window, having been linked with two forgotten stars. According to a report from Calciomercato, the Roma boss is keen on strengthening his options available at centre-back.

As a result, a loan deal for Trevoh Chalobah could be on the cards as the defender has struggled to earn game time under Mauricio Pochettino. football.london understood that the Cobham academy graduate was open to an exit over the summer transfer window, with a late move made by Thomas Tuchel.

The former manager was unable to land Chalobah in time though as a move to Bayern Munich fell through and he would remain at Stamford Bridge. Having previously impressed under the German coach, signing a loan-term deal until 2028, his influence has yet to reach the same level under new management.

The 24-year-old is yet to make an appearance under Mauricio Pochettino, having faced some injury struggles and plenty of competition at centre-back. That has naturally led to plenty of discussion surrounding a possible exit once the January transfer window rolls around, with Mourinho angling to be front of the queue.

Chalobah isn't the only Chelsea star that is being monitored by the Portuguese coach though, with the report also claiming that Malang Sarr is also of interest. The French defender joined on a free transfer from OGC Nice in 2020, but hasn't been able to hit the heights.

Two loans followed as he spent time with FC Porto and Monaco, but he hadn't done enough to earn a place amongst the Chelsea squad. A deal couldn't be manufactured for his exit over the summer either, meaning that he is currently sitting on his contract while out of the team.

The Blues and the player himself may be wishing that the saga could come to an end soon, with Mourinho waiting in the wings. It remains to be seen if he will complete such a move, but it would certainly ease up any squad balancing concerns for two stars not involved.
