James Maddison has taken to social media for the first time since his injury against Chelsea. The 26-year-old is set to miss what could be over six weeks following a blow to the ankle sustained in the 4-1 defeat on Monday.
After being selected in the England squad to play in the upcoming Euro 2024 qualifiers Maddison was withdrawn from the group less than 24 hours later. Spurs confirmed that he would be recovering with the club's own medical team and Ange Postecoglou then admitted that things weren't what they had seemed on the night of the knock.
"Madders, a lot worse than we thought," Postecoglou said on Friday. "He came off with the ankle injury, but the next day wasn’t great so we sent him off for a scan. So again not great for him and probably into the new year for him."
That leaves Maddison with over a month on the sidelines during a key period of the season for Tottenham. Things didn't get any easier for the player or club on Saturday either. Postecoglou's men blew a one-goal lead away at Wolves, falling to a second consecutive defeat after conceding two goals in injury time.
In the aftermath of the game, Maddison has spoken out for the first time. "The rollercoaster that is football unfortunately," he wrote on Instagram alongside an image of him on the floor in pain.
"Will need a period of time away from the pitch to get this one right. See you in the new year Spurs fans, I’ll be back better & stronger for sure, promise you that [handshake emoji, white heart emoji]."

In Maddison's wake, Tottenham were left to work with a group of players against Wolves without much gametime between them and that added to the issues as Destiny Udogie and Cristian Romero were ruled out through suspension. "Can't fault the players' effort or commitment," the boss said after the game.
"It was always going to be a tough game anyway at Wolves. We just couldn't hold out."
