Disaster has struck for Tottenham and Ange Postecoglou. This time last week they were coming off the back of yet another win and looking to extend their lead at the top of the table, now they are scrambling to field a team.

Even until 8:35pm on Monday night things were just about in order even if the game against Chelsea had started to slip out of their control. What followed has been near disastrous. Spurs have gone from fielding close to a full strength XI with those unavailable nearing a return to being without close to 11 players.

The madness all started with Destiny Udogie's 20th minute tackle on Raheem Sterling and it hasn't stopped since. In the meantime they have lost Udogie and Romero to suspension, both will miss the clash with Wolves but be back shortly after the international break, whilst the injuries have spread.

Rodrigo Bentancur had been a shining light of positivity as he returned to play from the bench but that has been overshadowed by the loss of Micky van de Van and James Maddison. Now it seems that even the post-match hope that Maddison's knock wouldn't be too bad has been proven wrong.

On Thursday the 26-year-old was named in Gareth Southgate's England squad for games against Malta and North Macedonia but less than 24 hours later he was withdrawn. In a statement Spurs confirmed the decision stating that he would undergo rehabilitation at Hotspur Way with club staff instead.

Southgate had been coy on the fitness of some of his players after calling up Jude Bellingham, Bukayo Saka and Callum Wilson alongside Maddison, all of whom have been picked up niggles in recent weeks. "Some of those, we could lose one today after a scan, we could lose one tomorrow [Friday]," he said.

Whether or not that one was Maddison or not is unknown but he is the first and so far only player to pull out of the group for the Euro 2024 qualifiers and it signals bad news for Ange Postecoglou. "He [Maddison] got a knock on the ankle," the Australian said after the game on Monday. "We were down one man already. It made sense to make a couple of changes at that point."

Things now seem to be much worse than just a knock though as the Telegraph report that things aren't looking good for the former Leicester man. With a trip to Wolves on Saturday it is a nervous time for some neutrals as well with Fantasy Premier League managers on edge.

Will James Maddison be fit to face Wolves in gameweek 12?

It appears extremely unlikely at this stage that Maddison will play any part in Tottenham's game on Saturday. Postecoglou will give an update on his player on Friday when he speaks ahead of the game but all the signs right now point towards him being ruled out.

If there is a silver lining to all of this then it is that there is at least a two week break now for Maddison to recover in. Spurs play Aston Villa on November 26 after the international fixtures and then the tough run continues with a trip to Manchester City, home clash against West Ham and then top four clash with Newcastle.

Spurs also have Brighton to play before the end of the year and Maddison will be central to plans if fit. He is also one of the most selected players in FPL right now but already over 300,000 managers have transfered him out due to these latest fears.

He is one of the top perfomers in the game this year with 63 total points - largely stemming from his three goals and six assists. The 36% selection is evidence of the trust most have in him on a weekly basis and that is despite the wholesale rush to get him out in the wake of this update.

It will certainly take a miraculous recovery from him to have any role this weekend but after that it is still uncertain.
