Tottenham have revealed how star centre-back Micky Van de Ven has been training as he prepares a return from his hamstring injury he suffered in the 4-1 defeat to Chelsea.

With the game all square just before halftime, the Dutch international appeared to suffer a major issue while in a foot race with Blues striker Nicolas Jackson. And whilst he managed to walk off the pitch with assistance from the medical staff, it was not good news for Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou.

One of the Australian's major summer coups, the 22-year-old has been instrumental in the club's dynamic start to the season which saw them go their first 10 matches unbeaten, with Postecoglou becoming the first manager ever to win the first three Manager of the Month awards of the campaign with a new club.

His partnership with Cristian Romero had been rock solid up until that decisive night at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, but Spurs would lose both within the first 40 minutes after the Argentine's challenge on Enzo Fernandez was deemed a straight red card by VAR.

Having also lost talisman James Maddison before the break, Postecoglou was visibly disappointed at the two players' issues, and didn't leave much to the imagination in terms of how long they'd be out. He said: "Micky Van de Ven with a hamstring injury we knew was fairly significant. Probably a couple of months for him - looking into the new year.

"Madders, a lot worse than we thought. He came off with the ankle injury, but the next day wasn’t great so we sent him off for a scan. So again not great for him and probably into the new year for him."

Van de Ven was also left out of the Netherlands squad by manager Ronald Koeman for their Euro 2024 qualification battles against Greece and Ireland in Group B, with the team still in with a chance of getting to the finals in Germany next year. Since then though, the club have put together a video which shows the star hard at work in the gym and his recovery looks to be going well.

The defender can be seen doing various workouts, including stretches, moving his legs back and forth over gates, hip thrusts and pulling weights with his hamstring. All of his workouts look to be under the supervision of the medical staff, who also have their hands full with other injured Spurs stars.

Richarlison, who underwent surgery last month, is targeting a mid-December return while Destiney Udogie was left out of the Italy national team due to fitness issues. Ryan Sessegnon, Manor Solomon, Alfie Whiteman and Ivan Perisic are the other long-term issues Postecoglou will be dealing with over the international break as he tries to recover some of his side's lost momentum in the next two weeks.
