Christian Mbulu has passed away at the age of 23.

The defender joined the Lions from Brentwood in August 2015, but didn't make a single senior appearance before leaving on a free transfer to Scottish side Motherwell three years later.

From there he joined Crewe Alexandra and spent the first-half of this season with the League Two club. Although he didn't stay too long, making the move to Morecambe in January in the search of regular football.

Mbulu would make three appearances for his new club before the season was cut short due to the coronavirus crisis.

And the sad news is that Mbulu has suddenly died at the age of 32.

The news has rocked the football world.

Motherwell chairman Jim McMahon has said: “We are shocked to hear of the news of Christian’s death.

“He was such a friendly, pleasant young man who we loved having around Fir Park.

“Our thoughts are with his family during this incredibly difficult time. We hope their privacy is respected by everyone as they try to come to terms with their loss.”
