Chelsea certainly hold an interest in Napoli striker Victor Osimhen ahead of the January transfer window. However, a move for the Nigerian during the season is deemed as unlikely at this stage, football.london understands.

It is no secret that the Blues are looking to sign a new striker over the January transfer window but a deal for Osimhen, which would likely exceed the £105million Chelsea paid for Enzo Fernandez earlier in the year, is viewed as unlikely at this moment in time. Ivan Toney of Brentford is also an option and is expected to be cheaper than Osimhen.

Chelsea are long-term admirers of Toney, football.london understands, with the Bees striker wanting to leave the club in the January window once he returns from his ban. Arsenal, too, have shown an interest in the England international, who has scored 32 goals in 66 Premier League appearances for Brentford.

There is no question that a new striker is a top priority for Chelsea, who have a shortlist of centre-forwards, including Osimhen and Toney, ahead of the mid-season transfer window. No decision has been made just yet whether they will act in January in regards to bringing a new striker to the club, football.london has been told.

Chelsea are still hopeful Christopher Nkunku can hit great form when he returns from injury. The Frenchman is yet to play a competitive match for the Blues after picking up a serious knee injury in pre-season but he is expected to return to action following the ongoing international break.

Meanwhile, there are more and more indications that Chelsea will give Robert Sanchez the season to prove himself as the club's No.1 goalkeeper. There are goalkeepers that remain on the Blues' radar but Sanchez's start to life at Stamford Bridge has impressed many at the club.

In terms of outgoings, Trevoh Chalobah is likely to leave the club over the January window. The 24-year-old defender is yet to feature this season under Mauricio Pochettino because of injury and it looks all but certain that he will leave the Bridge in January.

Ian Maatsen is likely to consider his future. Chelsea have held talks with the Dutchman over a new contract as they look to protect his value, with his current deal set to expire in the summer of 2025.

Maatsen, though, has been on the periphery for Chelsea this term, with Ben Chilwell, Levi Colwill and Marc Cucurella all being preferred at left-back. Whenever Maatsen does play, it is almost as a utility player in the attacking line.

If a new centre-forward is signed, then Armando Broja will consider his future. The 22-year-old striker has recently returned from a long-term injury but cannot afford to fall even further down the pecking order with Nicolas Jackson already ahead of his teammate.

Pochettino is expected to have a lot more say in transfer dealings, but the vast majority of the business will be left to the recruitment team. While Pochettino's input is welcome, it is not absolutely imperative.
