Thomas Frank will be undergoing preparations ahead of Brentford's return to pre-season training later this month, ahead of what is set to be a gruelling second season for the Bees.

Frank will be hoping Brentford don't become victims of "second season syndrome" and there will need to be plenty of transfer activity in both directions to ensure the Bees can survive for a second successive season.

A huge positive ahead of 2022/23 in particular, is that 13 of Brentford's 19 away trips are within London, the Midlands and the South Coast, which indicates tiredness really should not be an issue for Frank's side.

Brentford will have six London derbies on the road next season, including a trip to Craven Cottage to face familiar foes in what is set to be the first ever meeting between the two in the top flight.

The Bees enjoyed their fair share of joy on the road in the capital last season, with wins against West Ham and more famously Chelsea highlights of a incredible debut campaign.

With Fulham added to the list of London derbies, Brentford are set to rack up roughly 139 miles in trips around London alone.

London:

Arsenal - 24.1

Chelsea - 11.8

Crystal Palace - 27.6

Fulham - 9.9

Tottenham - 33.8

West Ham - 31.5

TOTAL: 138.7

With Nottingham Forest sealing a return to the Premier League for the first time in 23 years, Brentford will be up against a familiar opponent in 2022/23. The Bees and Reds met each other in the Championship for seven seasons prior to the former's promotion, with Brentford enjoying winning eight out of the 14 league meetings.

The Bees enjoyed their trips to the Midlands last season, with a well deserved point at Villa Park earlier in the season before a memorable win against Wolves at Molineux a couple of weeks after, to give Frank's side their first ever away Premier League win. However, they did go down to defeat against Leicester at the King Power, although they were unfortunate not to at least take a share of the spoils.

Midlands:

Aston Villa - 243

Leicester - 209

Nottingham Forest - 267

Wolverhampton Wanderers - 268

TOTAL: 987

Bournemouth are another familiar rival the Bees are set to go to battle with in next season's Premier League campaign. Brentford had overcome the Cherries in the play-offs to get to the Premier League back in 2020/21.

Having lost the first leg at the Vitality and gone 0-2 down on aggregate early on, the Bees looked like their dream of Premier League football would be quashed for a second season running, but an incredible fight back from Frank's side got them to Wembley. As they say, the rest is history.

It's safe to say the Bees didn't enjoy their trips to the South Coast last season, with defeats against Brighton and Southampton. However, they'll be hoping to rectify their away form when next season comes around.

South Coast:

AFC Bournemouth - 197.2

Brighton and Hove Albion - 148.3

Southampton - 145.6

TOTAL: 491.1

With over 1,600 miles being clocked from trips across London, the Midlands and the South Coast, Brentford will have a number of long distance trips up north. However, there are only six of them which won't phase Frank and the players too much. The Bees will make two visits to Liverpool and Manchester, along with solo trips to Leeds and Newcastle.

The Bees didn't have the best of times in the north, although they signed off in style when they came from 2-1 down to beat Everton 2-3 at Goodison Park in their final away game in 2021/22. Before that win, defeats came against Liverpool, Manchester City and Manchester City, with draws at Leeds and Newcastle - two games Brentford should have won.

The trips north of England are set to take Brentford over 2,630 miles, with the trip to St James' Park set to become a 565 mile round trip from Brentford Community Stadium and back.

North:

Anfield - 431

Goodison Park - 434

Etihad - 410

Old Trafford - 407

Elland Road - 390

St James' Park - 565

TOTAL: 2,637

Overall: 4,253.8 miles
