Leyton Orient owner Nigel Travis has revealed that he expects Tuesday night's Carabao Cup clash with Tottenham Hotspur to be postponed.

The news comes after a number of Orient players tested positive for coronavirus with cases across the United Kingdom starting to climb.

Jose Mourinho's side were set to travel to Brisbane Road this evening with midfielder Dele Alli expected to feature against League Two opposition.

But now Travis has told talkSPORT that, as far as he is aware, tonight's game will not go ahead.

Mourinho: Dele doesn't need to be sacrificed

“I think it’s highly unlikely,” he said.

“We heard just before we came on air that we’re expected to get a communication from authorities any time now, that that game will be off.

“We haven’t formerly had that. We’re expecting it and have heard it’s coming, but we haven’t seen it.

“And just to be clear, the game is a postponement, not a cancellation.”

He added: “This is a day Boris Johnson is supposed to be making announcements, we need some consistency. The chopping and changing isn’t doing anyone any good.

“I’m going to make a plea – the government has to wake up and decide it’s going to bail out sport. If they want sport to help people get off couches and get fit and they want sport for people to watch they have to help.”

The Orient chief also confirmed that Spurs did pay for their testing ahead of the game.

“I think it’s been well reported, Tottenham came to us last week and asked to do the test,” he said. “We agreed as we saw it as an opportunity to do testing. We did it, it was a slightly strange process but I won’t go into that – it’s not the normal process EFL follows.

“One thing that comes out of this is that there should be a standardised process between the Premier League and the EFL.”
