Leandro Trossard was badly hurt at the end of Arsenal's first half against Burnley despite scoring the goal to give his side the lead.

The Belgian had to be helped off by the Gunners' medical staff, holding his arm after a collision with the post following his headed goal in the 45th minute.

It followed a period of treatment for the former Brighton man as he lay on the turf inside the Arsenal box at the clock end. It was his bravery, though, that handed Mikel Arteta's team the lead on the stroke of half-time.

Trossard came on for a few moments before the referee called an end to the half though, still holding his right arm gingerly.

Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford was also involved in the clash of bodies and woodwork. The goal came after Bukayo Saka nodded his head from the back-post and Trossard rose highest to steer it in.

Arsenal controlled the game in the opening 45 minutes, passing the ball around their visitors half with several chances created. Kai Havertz missed two big opportunities, heading over from a corner and then seeing his shot blocked inside the area as well.

Saka also came close to breaking the deadlock with an earlier back-post header that caused confusion between Charlie Taylor, Trafford and Jordan Beyer. The 23-year-old centre-back nearly out through his own net, heading past Trafford and towards and empty net but it was clawed out on the line and then judged to have been a foul by Saka in the build-up.

Trossard himself was playing centrally with Eddie Nketiah left on the bench. The 28-year-old was able to carry on after half-time.
