Premier League teams are set to vote at the next shareholders’ meeting on a proposal to implement a ban on associated clubs loaning players between their teams ahead of the January transfer window. That is according to The Athletic, who have reported that the Premier League is recommending the temporary measure to ensure the integrity of the competition is protected while also offering time to agree on a longer-term solution.

The vote would need to be backed by at least 14 of the 20 clubs in order to amend the rules. If approved, the regulation would stop moves such as Ruben Neves heading to Newcastle United on loan from current club Al Hilal, with both clubs majority-owned by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF).

The Portugal international joined Al Hilas from Wolverhampton Wanderers during the summer window. But Newcastle midfielder Sandro Tonali's recent suspension for breaching rules on gambling has resulted in plenty of speculation linking the Magpies with a move for Neves.

Chelsea could also be impacted if the rules are changed, with the Blues' multi-club model also containing Ligue 1 side RC Strasbourg. Similarly, Arsenal owner Stan Kroenke also owns Colorado Rapids of Major League Soccer (MLS).
