Arsenal have produced a catalogue of highly-talented youngsters across their modern history. Bukayo Saka, Serge Gnabry, Emile Smith Rowe, Eddie Nketiah, Emiliano Martinez and Wojciech Szczesny are among those to have graduated through the Hale End academy and enjoyed stellar careers to date.

Millions have been made through player sales from the Gunners' academy and an emphasis been placed on creating a pathway for the youngsters to the first team. Last season, attacker Ethan Nwaneri made his professional debut at 15 years, 181 days in the 3-0 Premier League win over Brentford.

Arteta's decision to give Nwaneri a taste of first-team football was a reward for his performances in training and fine form in the youth teams. Nwaneri was also the subject of a glowing reference from Academy Manager Per Mertesacker.

"It was a pure gut feeling. I met the boy [and] really liked what I saw," Arteta said in September 2022. "Per Mertesacker and the academy staff are giving me really good information, Edu as well.

"I met him, he's trained a couple of times with us. Yesterday he had to come because we have injuries, especially the injury of Martin [Odegaard], and then I had that feeling from yesterday that if the opportunity could come that I was going to do it and I just done it."

The teenager hasn't appeared for the first team since but has continued his development with the Under-21s, scoring four goals in four games this season. Now, Chido Obi-Martin is the newest name on Arsenal fans' lips after his remarkable display against Liverpool.

The young Gunners came out 14-3 winners against the Reds Under-16s this week with the 15-year-old scoring 10 goals. Obi-Martin has been amongst the goals this season before, netting a hat-trick in a 4-0 win against Southampton for the Under-18s.

As well as representing the north Londoners in the UEFA Youth League, the centre-forward has also made his debut in Premier League 2 with the Under-21s this season. His stock will be high after netting 10 against Liverpool and supporters will be eager to see him given a chance in Arteta's squad.

But when will that opportunity come? Right now, it's difficult to tell. However, there are certain fixtures coming up for Arsenal where Obi-Martin could be selected. Last month's Carabao Cup exit means the usual route to the senior team is already ruled out, leaving only three more competitions.

The Gunners will start their FA Cup campaign in January and if the draw presents a kind fixture, the centre-forward could be handed a place in the squad. Gabriel Jesus' injury means only Eddie Nketiah is Arteta's option in centre-forward, leaving a space open.

There is also potential for the striker to be named in the squad for the final UEFA Champions League group stage clash with PSV Eindhoven. Saka, Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Aaron Ramsey, Smith Rowe and Nketiah all made their senior bows in European competitions.

Should Arteta or the club decide that this season isn't the time for Obi-Martin, further minutes with the Under-21s would be the next stepping stone with an eye on pre-season to show his class for the 2024/25 season.
