Arsenal have confirmed youngster Teyah Goldie has ruptured her anterior cruciate ligament, just months after recovering from the same injury.

The 19-year-old England youth international returned to the fold in May after spending 14 months on the sidelines recovering from a brutal ACL injury. She was on the bench for their final four league games last term and played a few minutes of their 4-0 win over Brighton.

Goldie made her debut for the club at just 16 years of age back in 2021 in a FA Cup clash but in March 2022 her progress was brought to a staggering halt as she ruptured her ACL while she was dual-registered with Watford. After a lengthy recovery, she now faces another extended spell on the sidelines.

"We can confirm that Teyah Goldie has suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury," the club confirmed in a statement on Tuesday. "Teyah sustained the injury earlier in the summer, while away from the club during the off-season, with tests and assessments subsequently confirming the extent of the injury.

"Teyah has undergone surgery and begun her rehabilitation at Arsenal Training Centre. Everyone at the club is focused on supporting Teyah to ensure she is back to full fitness as soon as possible."

Jonas Eidevall had to navigate large periods of last season without key players as ACL injuries swept through the squad. Beth Mead was first in November last year and star forward Vivianne Miedema tore her ACL shortly after. Leah Williamson suffered the same fate in April and Laura Wienroither became the fourth in May.

Arsenal defender Rob Holding spoke of the 'carnage' in the women's team when opening up about his own recovery from the injury in 2018. He also highlighted how the club take a collaborative rehab approach.

“Jordan Nobbs did hers at the time so we just started our coaching badges together earlier that year. And, yeah, she did hers a week before me,” he told the YouTube channel ‘Tea with Timbsy’. “Then we’re in the gym together on the bike and stuff. So that was that was good, that was a good connection for Arsenal to link the men and the women, both side by side doing the rehab.

“We’ve been doing that for quite a while I feel like. I feel we are one of the best teams at doing that and today I was speaking to Beth Mead, because she’s she’s coming back from hers. I mean the women’s side’s carnage right now.

“Viv, Leah, Teyah’s just done it again. Teyah Goldie’s just done her other leg. She just come back from her left one, she’s done the right one. Obviously Beth and then there’s Laura, so there’s five of them."
