It was something of a surprise to see Martin Odegaard out of the squad entirely for Arsenal's trip to Newcastle on Saturday. The Norwegian had come off the bench and scored against West Ham in a midweek Carabao Cup defeat, and Mikel Arteta had indicated that he would be fit to travel to St James' Park.
"He felt much better in the last few days, and we gave a few minutes against West Ham which was good to see, and his contribution was really good," the Spaniard said in his pre-match press conference on Friday. "He will train today and if he's fine he will be ready."
Instead though Odegaard was dogged once again by a hip injury. It was an issue that saw him left as an unused substitute during the 5-0 home win over Sheffield United, and his absence against Newcastle calls into question Arteta's decision to bring him on with Arsenal losing 3-0 at West Ham.
Regardless of your opinion on that though, the reality is that Arsenal may be without their captain yet again when they take on Sevilla on Wednesday. He will be assessed in the coming days before a decision can be made. Here football.london takes a look at those who could replace him if he's absent for the crucial Champions League clash.
Kai Havertz
The man Mikel Arteta opted to go for to replace Odegaard against Newcastle was Kai Havertz. Opinions have varied on how the German did, but this is largely because of a stupid tackle on Sean Longstaff that ignited the St James' Park crowd.
Aside from that moment of madness Havertz actually did OK against Newcastle and showed what he can bring to the role. It was simple ball progression, nothing flashy, but enough surely for Arteta to be impressed.

Fabio Vieira
At the start of the season it seemed as though Fabio Vieira may be in with a shout of a starting spot. The Portuguese midfielder impressed in a start against Everton and a game-changing cameo vs Fulham.
Since that time though, he has gone off the boil somewhat, with a mixture of form and fitness issues hampering his progress. He's still someone Arteta rates very highly though, and that right-sided eight role that Odegaard plays, is one where he has excelled before.
Leandro Trossard
We've not seen it much in the regular campaign, but throughout pre-season, the idea of Leandro Trossard as an eight was one that Arteta flirted with heavily. The Belgian has looked good in fits and starts this season, but primarily this has been as a member of the front three.
With his excellent technique and knack for getting assists it's easy to see how Trossard could well slot in to the Arsenal midfield. Putting him there could give you the luxury of move Havertz up front too with Gabriel Jesus also out for this fixture.
