Former Arsenal and Manchester City star Samir Nasri was the victim of verbal abuse at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday, reports TalkSport. The Frenchman was in attendance as part of his punditry duty that has followed his playing career, having experience of playing for both teams.

The report claims that a supporter from the home end was seen verbally abusing the former midfielder, leaving him "shaken up". The person in question was then claimed to be seen throwing punches at other Arsenal fans before he was ejected from the match that followed.

Talksport commentator Sam Matterface said: "There’s a supporter who was bellowing in his [Nasri's] face at this moment in time. It’s a bit unnecessary from him getting involved with Nasri who’s just trying to do his job [punditry].

“Nasri is just standing there being barracked by the supporter, there should be more stewards around here making sure it doesn’t happen.” It comes as another terrible look for Arsenal supporters weeks after a similar case of abuse was seen with former Manchester United midfielder Roy Keane.

Nasri's time at Arsenal had ended in a fashion that was far from ideal as he joined City in 2011 as part of their push towards the top of the league. With the money involved, it left many of those who supported the Gunners feeling far from ideal about the midfielder after his move.

The abuse on Sunday did put a bleak outlook on what was otherwise a fantastic day for those in the red of Arsenal against their title rivals in Manchester City. It was a far from pretty display between the two title favourites, who played out a nervous clash in the search of three points and an early psychological boost.

It took until the final few minutes for a breakthrough to occur at the Emirates as Gabriel Martinelli's return from injury was marked with a huge goal. The Brazilian's strike from the edge of the box deflected into the back of the net from Nathan Ake and was the deciding factor.

It leaves the Gunners second, behind fierce rivals Tottenham on goal difference, with plenty of games left to go before the title celebrations can begin.
