The summer transfer window may have closed for business but there is still plenty for Tottenham Hotspur to do behind the scenes as they plan for the future. Making a very impressive start to life under Ange Postecoglou with ten points from their first four Premier League fixtures, the Australian will be hoping that his side continue to kick on once league action resumes this weekend following the first international break of the season.
The 58-year-old is clearly planning for a brighter future at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and the team have already made huge strides since he took on the hotseat. In order to ensure Spurs' recent progression continues, Postecoglou and Daniel Levy have a number of decisions to make regarding the current squad as they look to hit the next level.
Contracts are very much going to be on the agenda with a handful of players set to be free agents next summer and a total of 11 then out of contract in the summer of 2025. football.london takes a look at the Tottenham players with less than two years left on their deals and what the future could hold for them.
Hugo Lloris - 2024
Looking set to depart this summer after making his feelings clear over his future, Lloris still remains a Tottenham player with a transfer not coming to fruition. Amid question marks over his place in Postecoglou's 25-man Premier League squad for the season, the veteran goalkeeper was included in the end and can feature in the league for Spurs if required, although that looks highly unlikely with Guglielmo Vicario the new No.1 and performing so well.
Unless Lloris gets a move in January, it looks like he will depart on a free transfer next summer.

Fraser Forster - 2024
Making a big impression between the sticks last season when Lloris was absent, Forster has made one appearance this term after starting in the Carabao Cup defeat at Fulham. A very good deputy to have for Vicario, Postecoglou and Spurs may want to keep it that way and ensure the experienced goalkeeper stays part of their plans going forward.
Brandon Austin - 2024
Currently Tottenham's third-choice goalkeeper unless Lloris jumps up the pecking order now that he is in the club's 25-man Premier League squad, Austin is still waiting to make his first-team debut for the Lilywhites. Having limited experience in senior football under his belt following loan spells with Viborg and Orlando City in the past, it may be time for the player to head for pastures new as he will be 25 in January and he really needs to be playing week in, week out.
Eric Dier - 2024
Dier's place in Postecoglou's thinking will become much clearer over the next few weeks following Davinson Sanchez's exit. Not making the squad in each of Tottenham's first five games of the season, the England international saw 18-year-old Ashley Phillips picked ahead of him at Burnley.
Not a good position at all for the player to be in at present, Dier ideally needs to be sold in January if he's not going to feature in Postecoglou's plans or else he will leave for nothing in the summer.
Ivan Perisic - 2024
Following a bit of speculation regarding Perisic's future in the summer, Postecoglou made it clear that the Croat was very much in his plans for the season. The regular game time he wants may not have come his way but he has still contributed with assists and impressive performances off the bench.
Given he turns 35 in February, this could well be his last season at Tottenham as the head coach looks to build a team for the future.
Son Heung-min - 2025
Last signing a new Tottenham deal in July 2021, Son will be out of contract in 2025. Still such a hugely important player in the team, Postecoglou and Levy need to get the South Korean tied down to a new deal.
They don't want a repeat of the Harry Kane situation on their hands where their main player enters the final 12 months of his contract.
Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg - 2025
Hojbjerg's Tottenham future is very much up in the air at present after a potential summer transfer exit didn't come off. Now having to contend with a different role at Spurs as he has started all four Premier League games on the bench, the Dane will very likely still be in the headlines come January unless his current situation changes.
As he is a player Tottenham can bring in a good amount of money for due to his valuation and experience in the game, the Lilywhites will need to part with him in January or the summer to ensure they receive a healthy amount.
Ryan Sessegnon - 2025
Injuries have wreaked havoc on Sessegnon's Tottenham career ever since his move from Fulham in 2019. Currently on the sidelines after undergoing hamstring surgery in the summer, the 23-year-old needs to return ASAP in order to make an impression on Postecoglou.
However, as Destiny Udogie is quite clearly Spurs' first-choice left-back going forward after such an impressive start to life in the Premier League, it is probably best both parties go their separate ways and Sessegnon gets his career back on track elsewhere.
Ben Davies - 2025
Next summer will see Davies celebrate ten years as a Tottenham player. The Wales international may not have played as much as he would have wanted this season but he is still a key part of Postecoglou's Spurs squad.
Given his versatility and experience, the Australian may want to keep him around beyond 2025.
Giovani Lo Celso - 2025
Remaining at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this summer despite a lot of talk about a permanent exit, what the 2023/24 season has in store for Lo Celso could very well determine his future. If he is to get a decent amount of minutes and play a key role for Postecoglou then the boss may want to ensure he remains at the club.
However, if his game time is limited and he spends the vast majority of his time on the bench, the player himself may want to depart for good.
Alfie Whiteman - 2025
Whiteman, 24, signed his current Tottenham contract back in February as he extended his deal until the end of the 2024/25 season. Given his place in the pecking order at Spurs and also his age, there is going to come a point where the player needs to leave in order to play regular football.
Tanguy Ndombele - 2025
Now in Turkey on a season-long loan deal with Galatasaray, Levy will be hoping that the Champions League club activate their €15million (£12.9m) purchase option next summer. Spurs really need Ndombele to recapture his best form or else they will once again find it difficult to find a permanent buyer for him.
The last thing Spurs will want is to see their big-money signing leave for absolutely nothing in 2025.
Japhet Tanganga - 2025
Tanganga was another to depart on loan in the summer as he headed to Germany to link up with Bundesliga side Augsburg. The German side do have an option in their agreement with Spurs to buy him, but it does become an obligation if certain conditions are met.
Way down the pecking order at Tottenham, both parties need to go their separate ways and that could potentially happen if Augsburg sign him permanently.
Joe Rodon - 2025
Rodon is another player who has no future at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium after departing on loan once again. Needing a permanent move for the sake of his career as things have unfortunately just never taken off for him in N17, that could come at the end of the season if he flourishes in the Championship with Leeds.
If that is the case, his price tag could increase and there should be plenty of clubs after his signature.
Sergio Reguilon - 2025
Reguilon will be playing his football for Manchester United this season after joining the Red Devils on loan. Struggling to find a permanent buyer for him so far, Tottenham will have their fingers crossed that their luck changes next summer with his contract running down.
Troy Parrott - 2025
Out on loan for the fourth season on the trot, it really is now or never for Parrott's Tottenham career. The Republic of Ireland international needs a strong season at Excelsior Rotterdam and to hit the goal trail in the process to try and boost his Spurs chances.
As he will be soon in the final 18 months of his contract, the Lilywhites will need to part with him permanently next summer if he is not going to be in their plans going forward.
